In this case, those body-scanning machines we've known about for some time are being installed in 10 airports. They are already being used in Los Angeles, Baltimore, Denver, Albuquerque, and New York's JFK. Later this month, the TSA will add the bum-looking devices to major airports in Dallas, Detroit, Las Vegas, and Miami. By bouncing millimeter waves off passengers, the scanners produce a black-and-white image that's detailed enough to see the sweat on someone's back (among other things). The program is aimed at detecting objects such as plastic and ceramic weapons that aren't normally picked up by traditional methods. The technology does have a couple drawbacks, HOWEVER: it can't see through plastic or rubber materials that resemble skin. Liliana Gaynor is one who refuses body scanning, however. Last week at O'Hare, Dr. Gaynor, an infertility expert, asked the TSA screener directing her to a body scanner how much radiation she would be exposed to. The screener gave her a cryptic answer saying it was the same as just a few minutes of sunshine. Dr. Gaynor pressed for the number of rads, or units of radiation, she'd receive, and the screener had no answer.

It was announced on Friday that the Transportation Security Administration plans to extend the use of full body scanners to eleven additional airports in the United States over the next two years. The American Civil Liberties Union immediately condemned the plan as a grave infringement on civil liberties. The ACLU's Laura W. Murphy issued a statement warning of the risks in "these invasive search techniques" and suggesting that "It is far from clear whether this technology would have been able to foil the attempted Christmas Day attack and every resource we put into using these machines is a resource not spent on intelligence analysis or other law enforcement activity." epic.org Full Body Scanner Bill Introduced in Senate: Senators Klobuchar (D-MI) and Bennett (R-UT) have introduced a bill that would mandate the deployment of full body scanners in US airports. The bill would make Full Body Scanners the primary screening technique. The bill would provide for an alternative screening method for passengers with "privacy concerns." The bill contains particularly weak privacy provision that ignore many of the problems with the devices already uncovered. In 2008, the House passed legislation to prevent the use of body scanners as primary screening devices. Documents later obtained by EPIC established that the TSA required that Full Body Scanner have the ability to store, record, and transfer detailed images of naked air travelers. EPIC has recently filed suit against the Department of Homeland Security to require that the program be suspended, pending an independent review. The Chertoff Group is Michael Chertoff, a dual Israeli/US citizen appointed Secretary of Homeland Security in 2005 by Puppet President George W. Bush. This is what I saw: An Indian man in a nicely dressed suit around age 50 approached the check in counter with the terrorist and said �This man needs to get on this flight and he has no passport.� The two of them were an odd pair as the terrorist is a short, black man that looked like he was very poor and looks around age 17. It did not cross my mind that they were terrorists, only that the two looked weird together. The ticket taker said �you can�t board without a passport�. The Indian man then replied, �He is from Sudan, we do this all the time�. I can only take from this to mean that it is difficult to get passports from Sudan and this was some sort of sympathy ploy. The ticket taker then said �You will have to talk to my manager�, and sent the two down a hallway. I never saw the Indian man again as he wasn�t on the flight. It was also weird that the terrorist never said a word in this exchange. Anyway, somehow, the terrorist still made it onto the plane.
